ACCRA, Ghana, May 11, 2025 — At the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards held on May 10, Afrobeat sensation Gregory Bortey Newman—better known as King Promise—was crowned Artiste of the Year, edging out stiff competition from Stonebwoy, King Paluta, Joe Mettle, Team Eternity, and Kweku Smoke. The Paris hitmaker also secured three additional trophies: Best Afropop Song of the Year for “Paris,” Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste of the Year, and Best Album/EP of the Year for True to Self . Born on August 16, 1995, in Nungua, Accra, King Promise’s smooth vocals and genre-blending style have made him one of Ghana’s most influential contemporary artists
