Gyakie is a Ghanaian afrobeat/afro singer born Jackline Acheampong on December 16, 1998. Gyakie released her first single, “Love is Pretty,” in 2019, which paved the way for another single, “Never Like This.” In August 2020, the “Forever” song from her five-track EP titled “Seed” became her claim to fame, receiving airplay and topping charts in Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria. Nana Acheampong is Gyakie’s father’s name.
EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION
Gyakie grew up in Kumasi, Ghana’s Ashanti Region. She attended T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School in Kumasi and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where she majored in International business.
MUSIC CAREER
Gyakie was born into a musical family and began working in the studio with her father at the age of eight. She was also influenced by Asa and Ghanaian musician Omar Sterling of R2Bees.
Gyakie released her first single, “Love is Pretty,” in February 2019, followed by “Never Like This.” In August 2020, she released Seed, a five-track EP. The Seed EP’s “Forever” song received airplay in Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria. It topped Billboard’s Top Triller Global and Shazam’s Top 200 charts, among others. In March 2021, Gyakie released a remix of “Forever” with Nigerian singer Omah Lay. That same month, she was named emerging woman of the year at the 2021 3Music Women’s Brunch for the 3Music Awards 2021.
She has a record deal with Sony Music Entertainment, RCA Records UK, and Sony Music Africa. Gyakie was named Woman of the Year for the 3Music Awards 2022 during the 3Music Women’s Brunch in March 2022.
